The Power of Perception : A 3-part Series (Life,
Relationships, Business)
I have been trying to get my thoughts together for weeks
to write this blog and yesterday it was like something switched on and I was
ready to go. The thoughts just came pouring out of me. I need to start with a little background,
over the course of the last few weeks, it seemed anything and everything that
could go wrong- went wrong. I was starting to feel that sense of dread. You
know that feeling you get when it feels as if the weight of the world is on your
shoulders. Then I had coffee with a
friend and it was so comforting. I suddenly realized that after that meeting my
entire thought process had changed. The
Power of thought is amazing. It is all perception, it all hinges on how we see
things.
I think we forget that we are allowed to have bad days.
We have to accept the bad days with the good days. We need to allow ourselves
to feel all emotions: anger, happiness, sadness, frustration and joy.
If you
are not feeling all of these emotions, can you say you are really living?
Now I know we have all heard about the power of positive
thinking and we all know that if you think positive, positive things will
happen and the same for negative thoughts.
Plus, we know that it is a lot easier to say than to do. Especially when
we face that crisis and it is so much easier to be negative. Surrounding yourself with a good support
system is a must (Check out part 2-Relationships) However; it is not just
positive thinking, it is about a positive outlook. You can look at situations in
a different light and it will change everything. Everything that happens to us is for a
reason. Sometimes they are good reasons
and sometimes they are not. Either way everything is a lesson, a good lesson or
a bad lesson but none the less it is a lesson. What you do with that
lesson is up to you. It is what we learn
from those lessons (i.e. mistakes, crisis) that makes us who we are. We need to take those lessons and let them
empower us!
Life is what WE make it. We have free will, nobody
controls our lives but us. We don’t live other people’s lives. We don’t feel
their feelings or think their thoughts. So why do we focus so much of our
attention on what other people do? We need to focus our attention inward. Why do
we let those around us influence us. Why do we allow them this power? Everyone was
given a life to lead. What we do with it is up to us. It is our choices that
make us who we are. We own the power to shape our lives how we want to. Do outside forces influence us? Of course but
to what extent is up to us. It is how we see or think about life’s situations,
that make living our life so wonderful.
I find that sometimes when things that we perceive as “bad” happen to us (especially repeatedly), we start to wonder what we did to “deserve”
it. I think what we did to “deserve it”
is we lived our lives! We should look at the things that happen in our lives as
“just part of life”. If nothing happened then LIFE would not happen. I think we should take what we can and move
on. There are times when you get that
overwhelmed feeling. I get it all the time. When seemly small things add up to
create a bigger situation which can take over. If we just stop and take a
moment to realize what the lesson is in those little things and that it is just
part of life, it would lessen the weight we feel. There must be balance in our lives and that
balance can be achieved by looking at things differently.
You will lose a job, you will get a job. You will lose a loved one, you will gain a
loved one. It is how you let those situations shape you that is important. If we only focused on the things we have lost
then we are not living our lives to their full potential.
I am very excited to share with you my thoughts on the
Power of Perspection in the next few blogs. On how I have been applying these
things to my life, my relationships and my business.
